Somerset's Vertically-Integrated Advantage.
Somerset is a vertically integrated forest products company and one of the largest manufacturers of Appalachian lumber and hardwood flooring in the United States. We own and manage timberlands and are one of the largest lumber buyers in our region. By being vertically integrated, we are able to manage the entire manufacturing process—from the forest to the floor—producing the finest quality products while making the best use of our natural resources. We believe that’s an important Somerset advantage.
Here’s how we do it:
Somerset manufactures flooring from the finest natural hardwood resource in America—Appalachian hardwood. With corporate headquarters in Somerset, Kentucky, and manufacturing facilities in Kentucky and Tennessee, the heart of the Appalachian timberlands, our company is strategically positioned to give you the finest quality.
Somerset processes millions of board feet of lumber a year. Throughout our operations, including drying, milling, and finishing of hardwood flooring, we maintain control over the entire process. This is an important reason we are able to consistently produce quality products that we can be proud of and you can be confident in.
To achieve the uncompromising high quality standards that we make mandatory for our flooring, we continually invest in the most modern manufacturing equipment, paved lumberyards, computer-controlled dry kilns, state-of-the-art finishing lines, and dedicated employees. We believe that it’s our skilled and dedicated employees that ultimately make the difference in our products, service, and reputation.
Somerset flooring is an environmentally sound choice because trees are a renewable and sustainable resource. You can trust that maintaining healthy and productive forests are our priority—not only are they essential to the world where our children are growing up, but our jobs, and the livelihood of hundreds of Somerset employees and their families depends on our forests. We support the Sustainable Forestry Initiative, requiring us to be responsible stewards of our managed timberlands by meeting independently established and monitored objectives on an ongoing basis.
